Owner,
Stephen Feinstein is the third generation in his family
to trade in the metals industry. His Grandfather
came to this country in 1917 and started a small local
scrap yard in Houston, Texas. After World War II,
his father Julius, a decorated veteran of the war, came
back to start his own business trading in government
surplus that was created after the war.
Later this
small business of buying “surplus” evolved into
Universal Metals and Machinery. A publicly traded
company that had offices in Venezuela, Japan, Georgia,
Midland, Texas and Houston, Texas.
After
graduating the University of Texas In 1983, Stephen
joined his father’s business to fine tune a trade that
he had grown up around his entire life. For the
past 10 years Stephen has been on his own trading in
surplus, excess prime and secondary material. For
Stephen metal is not secondary it is second nature.
